The Cabinet, chaired at State House, Nairobi, has endorsed the 2026/27 National Budget totalling KSh4.7 trillion, marking a significant milestone in the Government’s commitment to economic stability, service delivery and inclusive development.

The Budget includes Ksh495.7 billion in transfers to county governments, reinforcing the Government’s pledge to strengthen devolution and enhance service provision at the grassroots.

“We endorsed the 2026/27 Budget totalling KSh4.7 trillion, including KSh495.7 billion in transfers to county governments,” President Ruto said.

According to President William Ruto, in response to the ongoing drought affecting parts of the country, the Cabinet authorised the release of KSh4.1 billion to scale up emergency response interventions in the affected regions.

The funds will support food assistance, water provision, livestock support, and other critical humanitarian measures to protect vulnerable communities.

The Cabinet also approved payroll reforms aimed at addressing long-standing integrity challenges in the public sector.

The reforms will ensure that statutory deductions are uniformly deducted at source, enhancing transparency, accountability, and efficiency in public finance management.

Additionally, the Cabinet approved a suite of Bills to align Kenya’s legal framework with the Competency-Based Education and Training (CBET) system.

The proposed legislation will strengthen assessment frameworks, funding mechanisms, tertiary placement processes, and both pre-service and in-service teacher training, ensuring the education system is responsive to modern skills and workforce needs.
