Gladys Wanga Backs Oburu Oginga, Downplays Orange Democratic Movement Wrangles Ahead of NEC Meeting

The Chairperson of the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM), Gladys Wanga, has dismissed reports of deep-seated divisions within the party, insisting that ODM remains united ahead of its upcoming National Executive Council (NEC) meeting.

Speaking to supporters in Rongo town, the Homa Bay Governor termed the alleged wrangles as exaggerated and politically instigated, accusing unnamed critics of advancing tribal-driven narratives to destabilize the party.

Wanga used the platform to publicly reaffirm her support for Oburu Oginga as a potential party leader, expressing confidence that his leadership would strengthen internal cohesion and steer the party toward national development goals.

We want to tell our supporters to remain focused, united. To look at the bigger picture and the broader goal because this a party that Raila Odinga built with institutions and structures,” said Wanga.

“We must remain focused on building our party and consolidating our agenda. ODM has always been a democratic movement, and internal discussions should not be mistaken for division,” she told supporters.

Her remarks come at a time when ODM is preparing to convene its NEC meeting on March 27 to elect new officials, recalibrate its political strategy, and deliberate on ongoing engagements with William Ruto’s United Democratic Alliance (UDA).

However, Wanga maintained that ODM’s internal democratic processes should be viewed as a sign of institutional strength rather than weakness.

She urged members to prioritize unity and discipline, emphasizing that the party’s broader mission and national outlook must take precedence over personal interests.

The March 27 NEC meeting is expected to be pivotal in shaping ODM’s leadership structure and political direction as the country gradually shifts focus toward the next electoral cycle.
