The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Party National Executive Committee (NEC), meeting in Mombasa, has resolved to relieve Secretary General Hon. Edwin Sifuna of his responsibilities with immediate effect.
Following the resolution, Hon. Catherine Omanyo, who currently serves as one of the Party’s Deputy Secretary Generals, has been appointed to act as Secretary General until a substantive office holder is elected in accordance with the Party Constitution and established procedures.
“Having deliberated on matters relating to the conduct of the Secretary General Sen. Edwin Sifuna, the NEC resolved to remove him from office with immediate effect in accordance with the party constitution and applicable laws. Effectively, the Deputy Secretary General Hon. Catherine Omanyo will act in this position until a substantive holder of the position is elected,” read the statement.
Additionally, the committee adopted resolutions earlier passed by the party’s Central Committee, including formally mandating Oburu to spearhead negotiations on ODM’s pre-election coalition arrangements with other political parties.
The NEC noted that the negotiations would be guided by the party’s ideological foundations, strategic interests and the aspirations of its membership.
Further the committee deliberated upon the progress report of the 10 point agenda and called upon relevant stakeholders and parties to urgently address the obstacles leading to the delay of the progress.
The NEC underscored its commitment to upholding the Party’s constitutional framework, unity, and effective leadership structures, noting that the decision was taken in the best interest of the Party and its members.
The Party reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening internal governance, advancing its policy agenda, and serving the aspirations of its members and the Kenyan people.
