Kenya Reaffirms Support for South Sudan’s Electoral Preparedness & Regional Stability

Kenya has reaffirmed its commitment to advancing regional peace and security, underscoring that enduring stability remains the foundation for shared prosperity across the region.

Speaking during a meeting with South Sudan Presidential Special Envoy, H.E. Tut Gatluak Manime, at State House Nairobi, President William Ruto expressed readiness to support capacity building and institutional preparedness of South Sudan’s electoral agency ahead of the elections scheduled for later this year.

The engagement reflects Kenya’s continued commitment to strengthening democratic processes and supporting credible, peaceful electoral outcomes in the region.

“Kenya is committed to advancing regional peace and security, recognising that enduring stability is the foundation of shared prosperity across our region. We are ready to support capacity building and institutional preparedness of South Sudan’s electoral agency ahead of the elections scheduled for later this year,” stated President Ruto.

Tut Gatluak conveyed a special message from South Sudan President  Salva Kiir Mayardit, reaffirming the strong bilateral ties between Kenya and South Sudan and the shared commitment to peace, stability, and democratic governance.

Kenya emphasized that its support is guided by a shared regional responsibility to promote inclusive political processes, strengthen institutions, and safeguard peace during critical electoral periods. Stable and credible elections in South Sudan were noted as essential not only for the country’s future but also for the broader stability of the region.

The meeting was also attended by South Sudan’s Minister for Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, H.E. Monday Semaya Kumba, and the Chief Mediator of the Tumaini Initiative, Lt. Gen. (Rtd) Lazarus Sumbeiywo, reflecting the collective regional and diplomatic efforts underway to support South Sudan’s peace and transition process.

Kenya reiterated its readiness to continue working closely with South Sudanese authorities and regional partners to advance peace, democratic governance, and sustainable development across the region.
