Kitutu Chache Constituency Member of Parliament, Mr. Antony Kibagendi, has been arraigned before a Narok court and granted a cash bail of KSh 100,000 in connection with an alleged assault and destruction of property.

The legislator appeared before Narok Resident Magistrate, Hon. Ester Mwikali Mutuku, where he was formally charged with assault causing actual bodily harm.

The prosecution told the court that the alleged incident occurred on 27th November last year within Kisii Town.

According to the charge sheet, Mr. Kibagendi is accused of assaulting Mr. Asterico Omariba, an act that reportedly resulted in bodily harm.

The court heard that the matter was initially filed at a Kisii court but was later transferred to Narok.

During the proceedings, it was disclosed that the accused had previously been granted bond terms amounting to KSh 50,000 following the transfer of the case.

After considering submissions from both the prosecution and the defence, Magistrate Mutuku ordered that Mr. Kibagendi be released on a cash bail of KSh 100,000.

The defence team, led by Kisii Senator Okong’o Omogeni, raised concerns over the alleged misuse of public resources, claiming they were unnecessarily taken in circles while tracing their client.

“We have seen abuse of power by the state, as he was arrested by contigent of six vehicles, taken around in Nairobi, driven to Nyamira and finally spent his night in Keroka Police Station,” stated Senator Okong’o Omogeni.

The court further directed that the case proceed for hearing on a later date.
