PS Muthoni Hits Back at Opposition, Backs President Ruto

By Dorothy Musyoka

Public Health Principal Secretary Mary Muthoni has defended the Kenya Kwanza government against criticism from opposition leaders, urging them to respect the office of the President.

Speaking in Kerugoya Town after joining the Muslim community for an Iftar dinner that brought together national and county government officials, Muthoni dismissed claims by some opposition leaders that President William Ruto has betrayed the Mount Kenya Region.

She said the Kenya Kwanza administration has rolled out several development projects in the region and insisted that residents remain firmly supportive of the government they backed during the 2022 General Election.

Muthoni called on leaders to show respect for the presidency, terming it unfortunate that some politicians have resorted to hurling insults at the Head of State.

She also urged residents of the Mt Kenya region to reject leaders who, she said, are undermining the office of the President.

The Principal Secretary highlighted key government initiatives benefiting residents of Kirinyaga County, including the Affordable Housing Programme, agricultural subsidies for farmers, youth empowerment programmes and the planned County Aggregation and Industrial Park.

Also speaking at the event, Khadija Mustafa said some opposition leaders have been spreading misinformation that the government has failed in its mandate.

She noted that the Inua Jamii Imara Mashinani initiative has been launched to sensitize Kenyans on government programmes aimed at improving livelihoods.

Muthoni further called on residents to prioritize public health and safety by maintaining proper drainage to prevent disease outbreaks and ensuring children are supervised, especially while going to school.

She also encouraged members of the Muslim community to register with the Social Health Authority (SHA) to access affordable healthcare under the government’s Universal Health Coverage reforms.
