In the statement, Senator Sifuna noted that he had learned of the NEC’s decision through media reports and clarified that he had not been formally notified prior to the announcement.
He emphasized his longstanding commitment to the ideals, values and constitutional framework of the ODM party, stating that his service as Secretary General was guided by loyalty to the party’s leadership and its broader democratic mission.
“Let me state without fear of contradiction, that this action is illegal, unprocedural and a blatant violation of the ODM Constitution, as well as the principles of natural justice. At no time have I been informed of any allegations against me, be they of indiscipline, insubordination or incompetence in the execution of my duties as SG. Neither have I been invited to respond to any complaints in and out of the party, on any matter that would constitute grounds for removal.Consequently, no lawful organ of the party has invited me for any hearing,” stated Sifuna.
Sifuna acknowledged the authority of the party’s NEC but raised concerns about the procedure and legality of the decision, citing the party constitution and the need for adherence to established internal processes.
He stressed that leadership transitions within the party must be conducted transparently, inclusively, and in strict compliance with party rules.
The Senator reaffirmed his dedication to ODM and its supporters across the country, urging party members to remain united and focused on advancing democratic governance, social justice and development for Kenyans.
He also indicated that he would continue engaging relevant party organs to seek clarity on the way forward.
ODM’s NEC earlier announced that Hon. Catherine Omanyo, the Deputy Secretary General, would act as Secretary General pending the election of a substantive office holder
